Program Description: This course will help students enter their Algebra I course with more confidence! We will review important foundational concepts and explore the first few concepts of the Algebra I curriculum to give students a head start. Topics covered include: fractions, decimals and percents, solving equations, exponents and word problems. Students can expect an interactive and focused experience each day. This course is also a good fit for students who have a already completed Algebra I and want a refresher before they move on to higher levels of math.
What to Bring: Pencils, Scratch Paper, Notebook, and Calculator
Instructor: Shayla Coleman is a member of the Middle School Math faculty. She earned her BA in Mathematics from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA and her PhD in Educational Research and Policy Analysis from North Carolina State University. She has worked for 9 years as a math teacher and for almost 20 years as a tutor for middle and high school students. She enjoys helping students who find math challenging, and she loves to help students with strategies for solving puzzles, brain teasers, and word problems. She strives to create an environment where all students feel like they can be successful!
