Dates: July 22-26, 2019
Time: 12:45-3:00 pm
Age/Gender: Rising 6th-9th Grade, Coed
Location: Fine Arts Center, Young People's Theater
Program Description: A new camp for 2019, this is an acting workshop using masks to explore character and storytelling. The workshop is taught using masks which are supplied, but we will not be creating masks. The masks used for this camp are primarily the "commedia" type; designed to work with the actor's face, transforming it, but leaving part of the face exposed. This type of mask allows the actor to combine the physical appearance of the mask, with the expressions of the actor's own eyes, brows, body, and/or mouth- the conscious and unconscious elements of the actor's psyche, as manifested in speech and body language. In addition to the commedia masks, there will also be an opportunity to explore the basics of neutral masks. The camp will culminate in a performance on the final day!
Instructor: Jason Sharp currently serves as the Middle and Upper School Drama instructor at Ravenscroft and Technical Director for Vance Granville Community College. He holds a BFA in Music Theatre from Shenandoah Conservatory and numerous professional acting credits. Locally he has worked with Theatre Raleigh, Theatre in the Park, Theatre of the American South, Justice Theatre, Stage Struck, and Bare Theatre. Mr. Sharp has taught the arts in NC since 2003 and is thrilled to have the opportunity to share his love of the stage and all things drama with campers!
