For the fourth year in a row, Ravenscroft's student-led fundraising team for Crucial Catch has been recognized as the top fundraising school in the nation, exceeding their goal of $30,000 by more than $6,000, and once again winning the prestigious Pink Cleat Award.
Faculty and Staff Awards
Each year, Ravenscroft recognizes faculty and staff members who have distinguished themselves in service to the school community. These awards, created through the generosity of Ravenscroft families and our Parents’ Association, celebrate the craft and commitment of our employees and serve as a reminder of the impact of the work we all do for our students, their families, our colleagues and the institution.
HELTON EXCELLENCE AWARD
Since 1991, due to the vision and generosity of Charles and Barbara Helton, Ravenscroft has been able to recognize the distinguished work of a number of colleagues. The Heltons, parents of Tom Helton ’89 and Laura Helton Kalorin ’92, created an endowment — now called the Helton-Kalorin Family Endowment — that enables the school to identify and reward those teachers who “make the classroom exciting and encourage a love of learning which will last a lifetime.” For staff members, the Helton award is given “in recognition of special achievement and distinguished service to the school.”
O’HERRON DISTINGUISHED FACULTY AWARD
The first O’Herron Distinguished Faculty Award recipient was announced in 1996. Ken and Barbara O’Herron, parents of Sally O’Herron Hogan ’01 and Katherine O’Herron Vogler ’03, created the O’Herron Distinguished Faculty Award Endowment Fund through an exceptionally generous gift that was intended to enable the school to reward distinguished teaching.
The criteria for the O’Herron Awards are as follows: “They are to be given in recognition of a teacher’s devotion to the teaching profession as demonstrated by exemplary classroom performance. They are intended to reward those teachers who serve as examples to their colleagues by exceeding expectations and providing each student with an outstanding classroom experience.”
QUBAIN AWARD FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE
Through the generosity of Munther and Janet Qubain, we are able to recognize the distinguished work of our faculty. In 2000, the Qubains, parents of Sarah Gilleskie Hoverstad ’04 and Rebecca Qubain Toole ’15, created the Qubain Award for Teaching Excellence Fund to allow Ravenscroft to recognize and reward excellent full-time teachers.
PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION DISTINGUISHED FACULTY AWARD
In 2000, the Ravenscroft Parents’ Association made an unprecedented pledge of $500,000 to the Bold Initiatives capital campaign. We are deeply grateful to all members of the PA for this generous support and their vote of confidence in our programs. Recognizing that there were two central goals of the campaign — new facilities and endowment — the PA chose to direct part of its gift toward the buildings and the other part toward the creation of a new endowment fund. The Parents’ Association Endowment Fund supports this faculty recognition program.
Note: Not every award is bestowed every year. In 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023, the funds for all awards were shared among all faculty and staff in recognition of their outstanding work through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
