For the fourth year in a row, Ravenscroft's student-led fundraising team for Crucial Catch has been recognized as the top fundraising school in the nation, exceeding their goal of $30,000 by more than $6,000, and once again winning the prestigious Pink Cleat Award.
Ravenscroft is excited to host our second Creating Inclusive Communities conference in conjunction with Pollyanna, Inc. The theme of this year’s virtual conference is “Having Success in Race Conversations.” The conference will revolve around conversations of how race and privilege impact a sense of belonging at our schools. Together we will share best practices and draw upon fellow communities to problem-solve and find meaningful solutions.
We are excited to have you join us on Saturday, May 21!
Keynote Speaker
Matthew R. Kay is a proud product of Philadelphia’s public schools and a founding teacher at Science Leadership Academy (SLA). He is a graduate of West Chester University and holds a Masters in Educational Leadership with a Principals’ Certificate from California University of Pennsylvania.
At SLA, he teaches an innovative inquiry-driven, project-based curriculum. He is also the Founder and Executive Director of Philly Slam League (PSL), a non-profit organization that shows young people the power of their voices through weekly spoken word competitions. The PSL is the only season-long, school-based slam poetry league in the United States.
He deeply believes in the importance of earnest and mindful classroom conversations about race. Furthermore, he believes that any teacher who is willing to put in the hard work of reflection can, through the practice of discrete skills, become a better discussion leader. Driven by these convictions, he is passionate about designing professional development that teachers find valuable.
Matthew lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Cait, and his daughter, Adia Sherrill & Bennu Jane.

Mission & Strategy: Pollyanna advances systemic change by developing stronger communities. Pollyanna works with academic and other institutions to achieve their diversity, equity and inclusion goals. Through its unique conference models, discussion platforms, and racial literacy curricula, Pollyanna increases cultural competence.
Multi-School Conference: Pollyanna’s original conference emphasizes our motto “Every Voice Matters” by welcoming all constituent groups at schools in the conference conversation: administrators, alumni, diversity, equity and inclusion practitioners, faculty, heads of schools, parents, students, trustees. The school that hosts this conference in a designated geographic region welcomes peer schools in that region to discuss challenges and effective practices around a specific diversity, equity and inclusion topic, and generate Actionable Ideas to create movement at each of the attending schools.
