Ravenscroft Welcome Special Olympics

Ravenscroft is proud of our more than 30-year partnership with Special Olympics Wake County and is pleased to welcome athletes, families and friends to our campus for the upcoming Spring Games.

The Spring Games will be a one-day event held on Wednesday, April 24. In the event of rain, the games will be rescheduled to Thursday, April 25.

There are many opportunities for everyone to support the games, and we rely on the support of our community and our wonderful volunteers to make the games a success. We hope you’ll join us as we work together to host a fantastic Special Olympics.

Volunteering

Click here to sign up to volunteer. (Student opportunities will be separate from this registration.) Spaces are limited. If registration is full, please still join us as fans in the stands. If you plan to attend as a fan, please email Megan Moody. There is also another upcoming opportunity to volunteer at Ravenscroft on Sunday, April 21, for the Special Olympics Track Invitational.

History

Ravenscroft has been an advocate for Special Olympics for more than 30 years, hosting the games on campus 30 times (due to a COVID hiatus). Our ability to host the Special Olympics has been an amazing experience and opportunity for the entire Ravenscroft community. We look forward to many more years of serving our local branch, Special Olympics Wake County, and providing joy to our local athletes. Special Olympics Wake County is among the largest and most active programs in North Carolina. If you would like to know more about Special Olympics Wake County and help serve in a greater capacity, please visit their website.

Lead From Here

As part of our schoolwide focus through Lead From Here, students in all three divisions play an important role during this special event. This year, our sophomore class will be assisting with the Spring Games, and a group of sophomores will have an opportunity to be a part of the Youth Games Management Training program that Special Olympics Wake County created for the first time last year. Students who volunteer for the program will be trained by a representative at Special Olympics Wake County to lead the track and field games. Our Lower School and Middle School students will continue to decorate signs of encouragement for the athletes and provide enthusiastic support at the opening ceremony. Also, a group of Middle School students will have the opportunity to assist in our new sensory room that was created by two of the Special Olympics Committee members.
