After School Programs

Ravenscroft is proud to offer on-campus, after-school programming for students. These programs provide opportunities for students to enrich their lives, embrace their passions, and even build upon their knowledge after the school day is complete. In 2023-24 we started the Ravenscroft Athletic Development Program to help 4th through 6th students develop their skills and build a connect to the Ravenscroft Athletic program.

Each year we strive to adapt and grow the programs that we provide for the school community in order to meet the changing needs of students and families.

We promote all after-school programs through the Ravenscroft Weekly email, so you should always check there first for announcements of more programs throughout the 2025-26 school year!

Dazzle & Design Jewelry Club (PreK- 2nd)

Program Description: Let your imagination dazzle! Each week, students will design and create their own unique jewelry—necklaces, bracelets, earrings (clip-on or pretend), and keychains—while exploring colors, patterns, textures, and shapes. Kids will build fine motor skills, confidence, and creativity as they bring their ideas to life in a safe, age-appropriate, and easy-to-complete one-hour session. Every piece is a chance to shine and express their personal style!

Program Description:Little Ravens Science Club is an 6-week, hands-on science adventure inspired by the curiosity and fun of Sid the Science Kid! Designed for our Pre-K -2nd grade students , this club sparks early STEM thinking through simple, playful experiments. Each weekly 1-hour session features an exciting theme—like color mixing, air power, or melting magic, —and includes a Sid-style “Question of the Day,” a guided experiment, creative drawing or journaling, and a share circle. Designed just for young learners, the club helps children practice observing, predicting, comparing, communicating, and working together while joyfully discovering how the world works—just like Sid!

Each day is inspired by a different famous artist and theme, helping young artists see the world in new, colorful ways. We focus on fun, hands-on activities that foster imagination, motor skills, and an appreciation for art history.

Calling All Swifites! The Taylor Swift Experience 2.0 (PreK-3rd)

Program Description: Calling all Swiftes! Do you love Taylor Swift and her music? Then this experience is for you! Get ready to make friendship bracelets, decorate your own guitar, and other Swift inspired crafts. We will get ready for the stage with practicing our stage presence and choreographing our own Taylor Swift songs! Don't forget singing! We will have a blast singing all our favorite Taylor Swift songs! Your child will be ready to set the stage after this experience!

Do you love Taylor Swift and her music? Then this experience is made for you! Join us for six fun-filled sessions of crafting, singing, and performing — all inspired by Taylor’s iconic eras and her brand-new album!

Each week, we’ll celebrate our inner pop star with a new Swiftie-themed project and activities some of which include:

Friendship Bracelets – Just like the Eras Tour! Create and trade bracelets inspired by your favorite songs.
Glitter Microphones – Decorate your own glitter microphone to shine on stage.
"Bejeweled" Frames– Design your own Taylor Swift inspired frame and include printed lyrics on the inside!

Program Description: Creative Crafters Club is an engaging, joy-filled after-school program for Pre-K–5th grade students who love to build, paint, glue, design, and dream! Each week, students dive into hands-on projects using paint, clay, beads, collage materials, nature items, recycled treasures, and more. From seasonal crafts to mini sculptures and creative experiments, every session sparks curiosity and builds fine-motor skills in a fun, easy-going environment.

The Nintendo Nook (K-3rd)

Program Description: Get ready to power up for fun at the Nintendo Nook! This exciting program is a perfect place for students to explore the vibrant, creative, and expansive worlds of Nintendo. The Nintendo Nook is designed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and movement inspired by the games we love. Join us in our artistic endeavors, movement activities, teamwork, storytelling & role-play! We're going beyond the screen to bring beloved franchises like Mario, Pokémon, Animal Crossing, and Kirby to life. We'll participate in DIY obstacle courses for a Mario Kart race, map building, scavenger hunting, character skits, game soundtrack exploration and more. Whether your child is a seasoned gamer or new to the world of Nintendo, they will discover ways to learn, play, and connect with their peers here. Although not required at all, IF your child has a Nintendo device they would like to bring to club, they are welcome to, but please chat with me about it beforehand.

Spark Coding Lab (K-5th)

Program Description: Ignite your child’s curiosity with an exciting introduction to computer science! In this hands-on camp, students learn foundational programming skills such as sequencing, loops, debugging, events, and creative coding while designing simple games, animations, and interactive stories.

Students will work with block-based coding, an age-friendly visual programming style used in Code.org and Scratch. They’ll also be able to view the text-based version of their code, giving them early exposure to real programming languages and helping them understand how their blocks translate into true code concepts.

Each day blends playful challenges with real coding tools, helping students build confidence, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills—all in a fun, supportive environment.

Program Description: In this exciting hands-on camp, kids become game designers as they create and code their own simple video games. Throughout the week, students learn how to animate characters, use events to control movement, and add interactive features that make their games come alive.

Students will explore fun themed challenges—such as creating their own sports game, designing icy adventures inspired by Anna and Elsa, building pet rescue missions, or crafting space explorer quests. Each day brings a new creative prompt that lets students bring their imagination to life through coding.

Program Description: Join the Sketch Up! Club with Mr. Carlson, your guide to turning doodles into masterpieces! Get ready to create drawings of your favorite characters like a pro! Students in grades 2–5 will learn to sketch Disney Heroes, Star Wars Legends, Magical Wizards, and Super Mario adventurers. Every day, we’ll unlock artistic secrets through step-by-step instructions. You'll learn the cartoonist's tricks: how to use basic shapes (the building blocks!), how to master proportions (so your characters look perfect!), and how to use shading (to make your drawings POP!). Beginners will go from zero to hero and improve from day one, while experienced artists will level up their techniques and develop their own creative flair. You'll discover how to draw expressive faces and tell amazing stories with just a pencil! It’s the ultimate chance to boost your confidence and unleash your creativity through the magic of cartooning!

Guardians of the Gallery (PreK-5th) (Cancelled)

Program Description: Calling all Pre-Kindergarten-5th Grade art enthusiasts! Step behind the velvet ropes and into the exclusive world of art curation by joining Guardians of the Gallery! Facilitated by Mrs. Callaghan, Mrs. Karpowitz, and Middle/Upper School members of the Morton Committee, this program transforms students into courageous curators. Participants will work alongside older artists to learn the secrets of staging an art show and creating their own mini-collection. Guardians will also take a special tour to explore the hidden treasures of our school's private Hugh Morton, Jr. Art Collection. The experience culminates with students putting their new skills into action by planning and curating a part of the official Lower School Art Exhibition in March.

Key Information:
- What to bring: a snack and water bottle, comfy shoes, clothes that can get paint on them
- Pick-up: We will be in the Lower School Fine Arts Building. Come to parking lot E and park. Walk around the back of the building and you’ll find us in Mrs. Callaghan’s room. Look for the open door decorated with koi fish—that's us! If your kiddo participates in Extended Day, we will make sure they make it there afterward!

Instructors & Program Purpose:
Your guides on this artistic adventure are experienced Ravenscroft instructors Mrs. Karpowitz (3rd-5th grades), and Mrs. Callaghan (PK-2nd grades). They will be joined by the Morton Committee facilitators, a select group of students from grades 6-12 who collaborate throughout the year to select pieces to add to The Hugh Morton, Jr. Art Collection.

The Hugh Morton, Jr. Art Collection is a vital asset enriching the lives of students, families, and faculty in our community. The individual pieces serve as valuable teaching tools to explain different techniques and styles of art. The ultimate hope of the Guardians of the Gallery program is to begin early to cultivate a long-term commitment to our community's arts culture.

The Bluey Bunch (PreK-1st)

Program Description: Get ready for imagination, adventure, and loads of fun with The Bluey Bunch! Inspired by the lovable pup from the hit TV show Bluey, this club invites our youngest learners (PreK–1) to play, learn, and grow through exciting games and creative storytelling—just like Bluey and Bingo do!

Each week, we'll explore episodes and act out favorite moments from the show. From playing "Keepy Uppy" with balloons to creating our own "Magic Xylophone" sounds, every activity helps build cooperation, imagination, and social-emotional skills. We'll also do arts and crafts, sing songs, and move our bodies in playful ways, all inspired by Bluey's world of family, fun, and make-believe!

Fairy Dragon Garden Creations (Fall edition) (PreK-2nd)

Program Description: Hello, fairy and dragon gardening enthusiast!

Get ready for a magical 6-day session of Fairy Dragon Garden Creations. We will create our very own enchanted fairy/dragon garden. Each day, we will immerse ourselves in a world of imagination, using art and garden supplies to bring their magical vision to life.

What to look forward to!

Daily Scavenger hunts: We'll embark on exciting quests to find fairies and other fantastical creatures to add to our gardens.
Magical Creations: We will craft unique items to enhance their garden, which may include dragon eggs, flower crowns, toadstools, and fairy garden homes.

At the end of the 6-day session, every participant will take home the magnificent, tiny enchanted garden they worked so hard to create! Plus, as a grand finale on the final two days, they can truly complete their magical look with sparkling fairy hair (parental permission required).

Pickup will be at Mrs. Callaghan's door (behind the LS Fine Arts Center). Please bring a snack and a water bottle.

Ravenscroft Chess Academy (K-5)

Program Description: Chess is a great way for Ravenscroft students to increase their mental agility, concentration, memory, and analytical skills! We are excited to partner with Dragon Knight Chess again in 2024 to provide the opportunity for Lower and Middle School students to participate in this session of the Ravenscroft Chess Academy!

In this program, students will learn chess fundamentals and strategies that enhance learning skills and critical thinking. Novice students and experienced players are encouraged to sign up, as we will have two levels of instruction and available experiences for both groups. We will register all students in one session and then divide them based on their experience level.

Dragon Knight Chess is dedicated to promoting scholastic chess instruction for all young people. Whether you just want to improve your chess knowledge to play with friends or are a serious tournament player, we can help advance your chess skills!

Program Description: It's Clay Time! Students will make clay projects each week out of kiln-fire clay that will be fired and then glazed in the colors of their choice. These lasting ceramic sculptures will stand the test of time, and everything will be sent home as they are completed. Their ceramic sculptures will make great gifts just in time for the Holidays!

At the end of each session, students will be escorted to the LS front carpool lot, at the end of the sidewalk coming from the LS Dining Hall/Fine Arts Building. They can be picked up there at 4:15pm.

Pokemon Trainer Academy (2nd-5th)

Program Description: Pokémon Trainer Academy is a space where students can learn how to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), participate in friendly in-club tournaments, and trade cards with fellow friends. Club members will also get the chance to watch real-life TCG matches and learn from the pros. Playing Pokémon helps build critical thinking, literacy, math, and social skills in a fun and engaging way. It helps students develop skills such as good sportsmanship, turn-taking, and patience. It encourages clear communication as they practice negotiation and learn how to compromise. The game also fosters conflict resolution skills when disagreements arise, and builds teamwork as players support each other and share strategies. To get the most out of the experience, members must bring their own Pokémon cards!

We’ll be using different size canvases and a variety of paints to create beautiful fall-themed masterpieces.

Program Description:Step into the magical land of Oz every Wednesday! In Wicked Wednesdays, students in grades 3–5 will unleash their imaginations while exploring themes of friendship, courage, and creativity inspired by the musical Wicked and the world of Oz. Through writing, art, drama, and teamwork, club members will create their own “wicked” twists on classic stories and build confidence while having fun.

Winter Cheer Clinic K-2

Program Description: Join us for the Ravenscroft Varsity Cheerleading Clinic, open to all K-2nd grade students! From December 2-5, participants will stay after school Tuesday through Friday from 3:00–4:15 p.m. to learn cheers, dances, stunts and game-day traditions alongside the Varsity Cheerleaders. The week will conclude with a special Game Day experience on Friday, December 5th beginning with a pizza party at 3:00 p.m. with the Varsity Cheerleaders, followed by cheering the first half of the girls basketball game.

Each participant will receive a custom Varsity Cheerleader shirt, cheer bow, pizza party, and the unforgettable experience of being part of the Ravens’ game-day spirit.

Raven Swim Academy (K-5th)

Program Description: In this ever popular program, all sessions will be a general lesson based on each participant's individual needs. Each participant will receive individualized instruction within the group setting. All sessions will focus on improving stroke technique and all strokes will be covered throughout the 4-day session. There will be some group activities but everything in the program will focus on individual improvement.

*Please Note: Participating Students will be escorted from the L/S to the Finley Center Pool at the conclusion of the school day. Coach Warren and his staff will help them change, if necessary. Parents can come to watch the sessions if they would like to.

Students that are not picked up from the pool deck will be escorted back to the L/S (back carpool lot) and can be picked up there at 4:15 pm

Instructor: Greg Warren has been the Aquatics Director and Head Coach of the boys and girls swim team since 2005. In that time, Coach Warren has been a part of 6 State Championship winning teams. Before coming to Ravenscroft, he swam for UNC-Wilmington and was a nationally ranked age group swimmer while in High School. He has over 30 years experience teaching swimming skills in both the private and group settings. He is an instructor for the American Red Cross and certifies the Ravenscroft Facility, Staff and Coaches in CPR and AED. Coach Warren also teaches swimming in both the lower and middle schools and also teaches a lifeguard training elective in the upper school.

Program Description: Looking for a calm and creative space after school? Join Ms. Higginson for Mindful Moments Club! Each week begins with a simple mindfulness activity, followed by student choice time with options like coloring, crafts, puzzles, reading, and outdoor play. This screen-free club encourages relaxation, creativity, and kindness in a peaceful environment. We end each session with a quiet reflection or calming breath—leaving students refreshed and ready for the next day.

Coerver Premier Soccer Skills (3rd-5th)

Program Description: Brian Morgan, Women's Head Coach at Cardinal Gibbons, brings Coerver soccer skills training to Ravenscroft. With a 40 year history and endorsements from Manchester United, Real Madrid, Liverpool FC and other top clubs, Coerver Coaching has been the global leader in soccer player development producing confident, creative players.

Coerver training focuses on building player confidence through mastering footwork and playing with creativity under pressure. All in an engaging, fittingly competitive environment. Training will take place after school and will be age appropriate with a maximum 1:12 coach to player ratio.

PERFORMANCE ACADEMY is Coerver® Coaching’s in-depth player development program. This class is for players aged 8-11 and is based on the five S's of the Coerver® Code: Skill, Speed, Sense, Strength, & Spirit. The program is taught by Coach Morgan and experienced Coerver® staff coaches, who customize skill development to meet the needs of each individual player. The Performance Academy level will focus on the “Core” technical skills, meaning that each training day is focused around one of our 4 core Coerver® move sets. In addition to the move sets, each player will train in ball mastery, dribbling with control and speed, ball striking, finishing, and passing & receiving.

Program Description: Sound Lab: Build Your Own Musical Creations! Where science meets sound, and YOU make the music! Get ready to experiment, invent, and make some noise! In this exciting 6-week adventure, we’ll explore the science of sound—how it moves, how it’s made, and why it makes us want to dance! Each week, we’ll roll up our sleeves and build our own instruments inspired by the four instrument families: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. We’ll use everyday materials (and even some real wood!) to craft simple, creative instruments—each one designed around how sound works. Along the way, we’ll run cool experiments and uncover the secrets of acoustics.

By the end, you’ll have your very own mini band—designed and built by YOU!

Program Description: There’s a reason Disney is known as the most magical place on Earth: it brings joy to people of all ages! This club is led by Disney-loving adult Mrs. Matal and is specially designed for middle school Disney fans. Together, we’ll dive into all things Disney through a fun and creative lens: pin trading, drawing like Disney animators, enjoying Disney-inspired treats (and other snacks!), listening to Disney music, watching Disney stories, and so much more. If you believe in magic, this is the place for you!

Beyond the Book (6th-8th) (Canceled)

Program Description: Beyond the Book is all about fostering a love and appreciation for reading! We'll dive into a variety of genres, including nonfiction, historical fiction, mystery/science fiction, poetry, and realistic fiction. Activities will include making crafts from old books, listening to engaging stories, enjoying independent reading time with a snack that I provide, creatively writing, and more. All craft supplies are provided. Led by Mrs. Matal, a seasoned 7th-grade ELA teacher at Ravenscroft with decades of experience inspiring young readers, this camp is perfect for book enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys reading but wants to explore it further.

Fall Cheerleading Clinic (2nd-4th)

Program Description: Join us for the Ravenscroft Varsity Cheerleading Clinic, open to all 2nd–4th grade students! From October 13–16, participants will stay after school Monday through Thursday from 3:15–4:15 p.m. to learn cheers, dances, stunts and game-day traditions alongside the Varsity Cheerleaders. The week will conclude with a special Game Day experience on Friday, October 17, beginning with a pizza party at 4:00 p.m. with the Varsity Cheerleaders, followed by cheering on the sidelines with the Cheerleaders during the first half of the football game. Each participant will receive a custom Varsity Cheerleader sweatshirt, cheer bow, pizza party, snacks, and the unforgettable experience of being part of the Ravens’ game-day spirit.
