Varsity Baseball Wins TISAC Championship
Varsity Baseball Wins TISAC Championship

Ravenscroft varsity baseball won their first TISAC Championship in nine years on Thursday, May 2, racing out to a 7-1 lead and ultimately defeating North Raleigh Christian 7-5.

The Ravens were led by Tommy Reynolds '20 with six solid innings of pitching as well as two hits at the plate. Jacob Zucker '21 and Charlie Everhard '20 each had three hits, and Will Tierney '19 and Jackson Corigliano '19 both had two runs batted in to help the Ravens take the championship.

With the regular season complete, the Ravens earned the NCISAA 4A No. 5 seed and hosted Wake Christian Academy on Tuesday, May 7. Despite falling behind three times during the game, the Ravens were resilient and forced the game into extra innings. Unfortunately, the team's good luck for come-from-behind victories ran out as the Ravens lost 8-7 in the eighth.

Leading the way was Charlie Everhard '20 with three hits, including a three-run homerun and three RBIs. Jackson Corigliano '19 had two hits and an RBI. Will Tierney '19 notched two hits, two walks, and one RBI. Matthew Badger '21 had two hits and one RBI. Tommy Reynolds '20 and Sam Rappaport '20 added one hit each. Abbott Timmons '19 pitched six solid innings in the loss.

Coach Jim Gibbons said of the Ravens' championship and season, "Our coaching staff is extremely proud of all the hard work and efforts of our players this season. This team was a joy to coach as they took us on a great ride. We were led by six seniors — Jackson, Will, Abbott, Derek Hughes '19, Christian Lee '19 and Justin Zachery '19 — who held their teammates accountable. They showed up each day to compete and improved from day one until the season's end.

"Beyond the TISAC championship, we upset the No. 1 team in 4A NCISAA baseball, Wesleyan Christian Academy, and had many comebacks, including walk-off victories over Wake County Home School, Greensboro Day, and Cary Academy."
