Two Upper School students attended the three-week Spoleto Study Abroad arts and humanities immersion program in Spoleto, Italy, this past summer. This interdisciplinary program features a dynamic curriculum in the arts and humanities and allows students to explore the local culture and rich history of the town during their stay.
Olivia Sturges '21 participated in the photography program, and Nick Walsh '21 participated in the vocal music program.
"The program allows students to fine-tune their fine art discipline or try a new discipline they might not have had the opportunity to previously explore," Olivia said. "Additionally, it is a great chance to experience Italy and make new friends. I especially enjoyed exploring the town of Spoleto, stepping outside my comfort zone to talk to locals with my limited Italian, and eating lots of gelato.
"I think other Ravenscroft students will enjoy this program because it allows them to fully immerse themselves in Italian culture," she added.
Ravenscroft is a Consortium School for Spoleto Study Abroad, supporting the program's mission and collaborating to provide study abroad opportunities for Ravenscroft students and staff. Since 1997, Spoleto Study Abroad has been committed to bringing an integrated style of learning to students, faculty and adults interested in pursuing their academic and artistic passions as they explore the rich cultural heritage of central Italy.
The 2020 program runs July 9-Aug. 2. Students can study creative writing, visual arts, photography, vocal music, instrumental music, drama or screenwriting. Ravenscroft students are invited to apply. Visit SpoletoStudyAbroad.org for more details.
