Nicole Girvan, currently serving as Head of Lower School at Charlotte Preparatory School, will assume the role of Head of Lower School at Ravenscroft on July 1, 2018.
Nicole has extensive leadership experience in Lower School education at top independent schools. She brings a high level of expertise in curriculum development, a commitment to academic excellence and an appreciation for differentiated instruction.
"We are thrilled to have attracted a leader with Nicole's experience, collaborative abilities and dedication to the education of young children," said Head of School Doreen Kelly. "She embodies all of the attributes we were seeking in a dynamic, enthusiastic leader with a high emotional quotient who values all aspects of the educational journey. I love that Nicole has a proven commitment to diversity and inclusion work, dedication to helping other educators grow and learn, and a fun and warm personality — all of which will be a great asset to our academic community and school culture. I look forward to our good work together."
Currently in her 21st year in education, Nicole has been the Head of Lower School at Charlotte Preparatory School, a coed day school serving PreK through eighth grade, since 2014. Prior to that position, she served as Head of Lower School at schools including Browne Academy in Alexandria, Virginia, and Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School in Forty Fort, Pennsylvania, as well as teaching young children in the classroom, providing gifted/talented enrichment and instructing and supervising student teachers. Nicole was also in the National Association for Independent Schools' 2010-11 cohort of Fellowship for Aspiring Heads.
Nicole said, "There are many things I am proud of but probably the thing I am most proud of are the relationships I have cultivated with each and every student. Similar to what my maternal grandfather did with all eight of his grandchildren, my goal is to make every child feel special and unstoppable."
Nicole comes from a family of seven siblings, four brothers and three sisters, five of whom were adopted. She and her husband, Rob, have three sons and one "dogter" who is named for one of their favorite baseball players, Bryce Harper.
Nicole and her family are avid sports fans, especially NCAA basketball, NFL football and MLB baseball. She also enjoys traveling, going to concerts, listening to live music and podcasts, reading, cooking and spending time with family.
Please join us in welcoming Nicole Girvan and her family to the Ravenscroft community!
