Students involved in Ravenscroft fine arts have been selected for prestigious strings and band honors groups.
Our strings program was proudly represented by 14 outstanding musicians at auditions for NCME's 2020 North Carolina Eastern Regional Symphony Orchestra (formerly referred to as All-State) on Saturday, Jan. 11, in Fayetteville. In total, approximately 400 students from the eastern part of NC competed in each of three rigorous audition events for this prestigious program.
Five of those students — David Nahm Kim '23 (viola), Heidi Segars '22 (violin), David Kim '20 (cello), William DeStaffan '20 (cello), and James Hohls '20 (viola), pictured at right — were selected to join the orchestra and will convene Feb. 28-Mar. 1 at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines, with a performance scheduled Mar. 1 at 3 p.m.
In addition, Middle and Upper School band students auditioned for All-District Band, a program of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association of NCME, on Jan. 11. Six students were selected and will participate in a two-day clinic at East Carolina University Jan. 31-Feb. 1, rehearsing and performing under the guidance of directors from North Carolina and across the United States.
