This past weekend, 12 Ravenscroft students participated in the Hood to Coast relay race, raising $84,020 for the American Cancer Society.
Hood to Coast is a 199-mile relay race from Mt. Hood to the Oregon coast and is called the "Mother of All Relays." There were 1,050 relay teams that competed, with a total of 12,600 runners in the race.
Our Ravens in the Hood team trained all summer to prepare for the race, including summer group runs that built to an average run of 24 miles per week. Each teammate was assigned three of 36 legs, each running an average of 13-18 miles per 24-hour period of the race.
Ravens in the Hood was the only all-high school team to compete in the race and completed the course in 29 hours, 13 minutes, placing 327th overall. The team finished as the overall highest fundraising team for ACS.
Since its inception in 2009, Ravens in the Hood has raised $437,675 for the American Cancer Society.
The 2017 Ravens in the Hood team includes seniors Clay Baker (co-captain), Bella Church (co-captain), Caroline Bardini, Maggie DeLeonardis, Martha Zaytoun, McCabe Watson, Bryson Wicker and Josh Thompson and juniors Mac Nelson, Courtney Rea, Caroline Schmalz and Jake Schneider.
