Varsity basketball standout Jake van der Heijden '19 has been selected from among the top seniors in the state to participate in the 2019 North Carolina Private School All-Star Basketball Game, which will take place at Providence Day School in Charlotte on Saturday, March 2.
Head coaches and athletic directors from across the state nominated more than 100 players for consideration for the game. Selection committees then worked to narrow the rosters down into two teams for each game that represent all of the classifications and regions from North Carolina. Many of the players have already committed, or are expected to commit, to play collegiate basketball.
The 2019 Boys Private School All-star teams will be coached by Kurtis Darden of Village Christian School in Fayetteville (East team) and Michael Wilson of Metrolina Christian Academy near Charlotte (West team). The 2019 Girls Private School All-star game will be coached by Bill Middlebrooks of Concord First Assembly (East team) and Charisse Mapp of Charlotte Latin (West team).
The games will take place in Mosack Athletic Center on the campus of Providence Day School. The girls' game will start at 1 p.m., followed by the boys' game at 2:30 p.m. Admission for the games will be $7 for adults, $5 for students, and children under the age of 8 will be admitted for free.
In addition to the game, all players and coaches will participate in a community service project on the afternoon of Friday, March 1, in the Charlotte community.
Best of luck to Jake as he participates in this exciting event!
