Ravenscroft golfer Kenan Poole '19 has again earned NCISAA 4A All-State honors, placing him among the top 15 golfers in the division.
Kenan is a two-time team captain, six-time letter winner, and five-time TISAC All-Conference performer (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019). He was previously recognized as an All-State honoree in 2017 when the Ravens won the NCISAA State Championship.
The golf standout was well-positioned heading into the season after winning both the Jimmy Anderson Boys' Invitational Champion 69-72 (-3) and the CGA Dogwood State Junior Boys' Championship 71-68-69 (-8) last summer. He also represented the state of North Carolina in the Carolinas vs. Virginia Boys team matches, which the Carolinas team won. In addition, he was a United States Junior Amateur Matchplay participant and earlier this year was selected by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association as a member of the 2018 N.C. All-State Golf Team.
The golf team had a strong season under new head coach Phillip Shelton, with a 16-10 record overall and a second-place finish in the TISAC Conference Tournament with a team score of 294, led by Kenan's round of 69. The team qualified for the NCISAA 4A State Championship and placed eighth overall with a team score of 631 over the two-day event.
Kenan is currently ranked first for the 2019 class by Golfweek and third for the 2019 class by the Tarheel Youth Golf Association and has signed with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, joining former teammate Ryan Gerard '17 and adding to the long history of Ravencroft golfers in the ACC.
Longtime Ravenscroft golf coach Jimmy Cox, who stepped down as head coach this season in preparation for retirement, said, "Kenan has had an outstanding career at Ravenscroft and has really left his mark on the golf program. In addition to his individual honors, he helped lead us to a state championship in 2017. Not only is he a great golfer, but he is a National Honor Society student and a super young man. I am happy that he gets to continue his golf career at his dream school, UNC. I look forward to following his future successes."
