Easter Maynard '89 has received the 2018 Vernon Malone Friend of Education Award for her long-standing commitment and service to Wake County families in her role as executive director of the ChildTrust Foundation and director of charitable giving for Investors Management Corporation. The award was presented at the Stars of Education Gala Dinner hosted by Wake Education Partnership at the Raleigh Marriott City Center on Oct. 10.
The Vernon Malone Friend of Education Award is the highest honor awarded by WakeEd. Recipients of the award have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to public education and share the personal qualities of the late Sen. Vernon Malone, longtime teacher, administrator, county commissioner and Wake County legislator. Recipients are nominated and selected by WakeEd's board of directors, leadership council and past recipients.
"Senator Vernon Malone was an inspiration," Maynard said in receiving the award. "His unwavering commitment throughout the era of desegregation is an example of brave, powerful leadership. I share his firm belief that all children can reach their full potential through a solid education. It's a real honor to be affiliated with his legacy."
In addition to her work for IMC, the parent company of Golden Corral, Maynard serves on numerous boards and commissions and offers a strong civic-minded voice within the business community. At Ravenscroft, she has served on the board of trustees for six years, currently serving as a vice chair. She recently co-chaired the Embrace Possibility campaign for Ravenscroft, which exceeded the five-year goal of $15M.
In 2017, Maynard was recognized with the Triangle Community Foundation Catalyst Award for visionary philanthropy, presented at their annual What Matters luncheon.
