Beginning Strings is open to sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students who have an interest in music and are curious about playing a string instrument. No prior experience is necessary. Students in the class combine with Sixth-Grade and Middle School Strings in concerts throughout the year.
Sixth Grade Strings is a year-long course designed to instruct sixth-grade string students in the techniques of playing violin, viola, cello, or bass while developing musicianship and collaboration skills within the context of an ensemble setting. On-campus performances throughout the year spotlight the students in formal and informal settings.
Middle School Strings is an interactive performance-oriented music course for seventh- and eighth-grade intermediate-advanced string students. Formal and informal performances take place throughout the year. “Lead from Here” competencies are integrated into all aspects of the experience. At least one full year of prior string instrument study is required.
Upper School Strings is an interactive music performance course for ninth-12th Grade intermediate and advanced string students who wish to further their technique and musicianship in the context of an ensemble. The curriculum blends the study of masterworks from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, and Contemporary periods with hits from pop and jazz charts, TV, film, and Broadway. With a focus on project-based and student-led learning, skills in collaboration, leadership, and service are developed. Honors Strings is available for advanced players in grades nine-12, by audition.
