John Whittenberg joined Ravenscroft as the new Head Varsity Baseball Coach in 2024. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Whittenberg was a standout high school pitcher, finishing his career with a 17-0 record and a 2.00 ERA. He played collegiate baseball at Biscayne College in Miami, Florida, before transferring to the University of Louisville to complete his degree. He went on to play and coach in the New Jersey semi-professional league for 10 years.
Whittenberg continued his coaching career at Bernardsville High School in New Jersey, as well as locally at Panther Creek High School and Green Hope High School in Cary, North Carolina. Over the years, he has been part of numerous championship teams and has coached some of the area’s most established summer-league programs.
He holds NFHS Accredited Interscholastic Coach (AIC) and Certified Interscholastic Coach (CIC) certifications, along with NFHS Level 3 credentials.
John and his wife, Cheri, live in Cary with their two children, Alexis, a graduate of NC State, and Riley, a qualified pilot. “I am very excited to be a part of the Ravenscroft family as I embark on coaching the baseball team!” said Whittenberg.
