For the fourth year in a row, Ravenscroft's student-led fundraising team for Crucial Catch has been recognized as the top fundraising school in the nation, exceeding their goal of $30,000 by more than $6,000, and once again winning the prestigious Pink Cleat Award.

Gabrielle BrownHead Coach
Coach Gab is an experienced track and field coach dedicated to helping athletes reach their full potential on and off the track. She has led teams to multiple championships, including two NCHSAA 4A State titles at Millbrook High School, four boys' and girls' conference titles at Enloe High School, and was named the girls' track TISAC Conference Coach of the Year at Ravenscroft in 2024-2025. Her athletes have achieved All-American honors and national championships, and have competed at prestigious events such as the Millrose Games and New Balance Nationals, as well as on the USA U20 Olympic Team.
In addition to coaching at Ravenscroft, Coach Gab works with Track Xplosion Youth Club and is the founder of Female Athletes Dominating in Sports (FADIS.org), a nonprofit supporting female student-athletes preparing for collegiate competition. She holds multiple USATF and NCHSAA certifications, as well as a Master of Public Administration. By combining technical expertise, championship experience, and passion for athlete empowerment, she continues to inspire and lead athletes to achieve excellence at every level of competition.

Deanna RandleAssistant CoachCoach Nikkie brings over 15 years of experience coaching youth track and field. During her coaching career, she has developed three state champions and led Southeast Raleigh High School to a team state championship in 2016. As an athlete, Coach Nikkie was a five-time state champion in Michigan and a five-time NCAA All-American at Clemson University. In recognition of her accomplishments, she was inducted into both her high school and collegiate Halls of Fame in 2016 and 2017. A devoted mother of three, Coach Nikkie comes from a family deeply rooted in athletics. Her oldest son advanced to the NFL, her daughter currently attends the University of Kansas on an athletic scholarship, and her youngest son—a standout in football and track—is currently considering more than 50 Division I offers.

Margaret IrishAssistant CoachMargaret attended Ravenscroft as a student until 2013 and began teaching Lower School Spanish and coaching at Ravenscroft in 2021. She competed on the Varsity Track and Field team at UNC Wilmington and NC State during her four years of college. She was the CAA conference champion in women’s high jump in 2015 CAA and achieved MVP in women’s field events at UNCW for 2013-2014. She was also an ACC scholar-athlete at NC State. She still holds the school record in the women’s high jump at Ravenscroft and hopes to coach some new record-holders!

Veronica JonesAssistant CoachCoach Vee brings more than a decade of passion and experience to Track and Field, with 10 years of coaching experience and an additional 10 years of volunteer service with Pop Warner Athletics. A lifelong athlete, she competed in Track and Field during high school and was also a proud member of the Color Guard in the marching band at Wakefield High School in Raleigh. Following college, Coach Vee continued her competitive athletic journey, playing contact flag football for three years in a Triangle-based league that traveled and competed throughout the East Coast. Beyond athletics, Coach Vee is a devoted wife, a loving mother of two, and a proud godmother. Her passion for Track and Field continues through her daughter, who currently competes in the sport and, at just eight years old, is an AAU All-American and a two-time Junior Olympian.

Jim Van VeenAssistant CoachCoach Van Veen began his coaching tenure at Ravenscroft in 2021, serving as the Head Coach for Cross Country and Assistant Coach for Track & Field. He competed in both sports throughout high school and at Florida State University. Prior to joining Ravenscroft, he held assistant coaching roles at several schools in Florida before relocating to Raleigh. Coach Van Veen remains an active runner who continues to train and race, and he is committed to supporting student-athletes as they work toward their goals and develop strength, confidence, and character.
