Kyle Smedley is a lifelong student of the game and a dedicated leader in athlete development, bringing more than 15 years of experience as both an elite player and championship-level coach. A multi-sport athlete in football, basketball, and lacrosse, Smedley went on to captain the men’s lacrosse team at Towson University, where he built a foundation rooted in leadership, toughness, and team culture.
Following college, he pursued professional lacrosse, earning opportunities at the highest levels of the sport. He walked on to the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (2010–2011), was selected in the 2011 MLL Supplemental Draft by the Chesapeake Bayhawks, and later earned a roster spot with the Denver Outlaws in 2013.
Smedley has coached lacrosse since 2010 and has been part of four high school championship programs. He served as an assistant coach at St. Paul’s School during its 2010 MIAA Championship season, becoming the only St. Paul’s alumnus to win an MIAA title as both a player (2004) and a coach (2010).
From 2014 to 2019, Smedley was the head coach at La Jolla High School in San Diego, where he built one of the nation’s premier public-school programs. Under his leadership, La Jolla captured three consecutive CIF Championships (2016, 2017, 2018), recorded the first undefeated regular season in program history, and in 2019 broke into the Top 25 national rankings, finishing #24 in the country. That same year, he was named the 2019 US Lacrosse Coach of the Year.
Smedley began coaching lacrosse at Ravenscroft during the 2024–25 school year and was named Head Coach for the 2025–26 school year, continuing his commitment to building programs rooted in culture, accountability, and long-term development.
Beyond the field, Smedley is the Founder of Harbor Lane Capital, a people-driven private investment platform focused on long-term thinking, leadership development, and experiential, community-based projects. He is also the Founder of Atticus Lacrosse Company, a team-, school-, and club-agnostic player development platform designed to support the complete growth of the student-athlete—on the field, in the classroom, and in life.
Through Atticus, Smedley is developing an integrated ecosystem that includes youth training and camps, digital and in-person education, mindset and performance development, experiential facilities, media and storytelling, commerce, and a nonprofit foundation focused on access, service, and legacy. This work is grounded in a clear development philosophy centered on trust, culture, and long-term athlete growth.
Today, Smedley continues to coach and mentor student-athletes with an emphasis on foundation before finish, identity before outcome, and developing young people prepared to lead well beyond the game.
