College Counseling

It’s as much about the journey as the outcome. Fostering a collaborative experience for students and families while nurturing individual potential is at the core of the college counseling office.

Ravenscroft’s four-year college counseling program equips students with the skills and confidence to make an informed decision. Counselors encourage students to look at a broad range of colleges in order to find schools that best match students’ desires and capabilities. Our three full-time college counselors get to know students well and provide individualized attention to each Upper School student and their parents. The close partnership provides support and guidance, helping students make confident and informed decisions.

Four-year Program

Over the four-year relationship, the college counseling team provides guidance, support and resources for students from discovery and research to selecting a school that best matches the student’s desires and capabilities. Our four-year program provides grade-level appropriate programs and resources for students and families.

  • Through college nights tailored to freshmen through seniors, students gain insights from Ravenscroft’s college counselors and deans of college admissions into the college search and admission processes.
  • Regular small group student programs give students the additional time and space to ask questions and learn more from college counselors about the college application process. Freshmen complete a self-assessment in Naviance online research and planning tool, helping them reflect upon and identify their interests and goals. Junior-year seminars focus on the admissions process, resume development, essay writing and interviewing.
  • One-on-one meetings are held with students and families on an as-needed basis. The college counseling office also provides college essay support in conjunction with the English department, a comprehensive letter of recommendation for each senior and one-on-one interview practice for scholarship and admission interviews.
  • Special topic presentations throughout the year include Financing College where a financial expert shares information on financing options and the Annual College Alumni Forum where a panel of Ravenscroft college-age alumni answer questions from current students.
