Do you Wonder if Reading Could be Fun?

Session And Dates:
Do you Wonder if Reading Could be Fun: June 8-12, 2020

Ages: Rising 5th-7th grades

Time: 11 am-12pm

Instructor: Doris Matal

Program description: This is an opportunity for students who struggle with mastering and loving reading. We will read Wonder by RJ Palacio. We will read the beginning chapters together, allowing us to discuss, analyze, and have fun with the story. This story is from different perspectives, and it has many interesting allusions (such as ‘Star Wars” and David Bowie). The goal is to spark an interest in reading, sharpen reading skills, make connections, but not overwhelm by reading too much at once. Students should not read the book before the camp (we want the element of surprise), but students will read the book in its entirety by the second camp. A second camp is offered (but not required) four weeks later. The second camp is for us to review and do fun activities with the book after it has been read in its entirety.

Materials Needed: Wonder by RJ Palacio (a hard copy of the book, NOT kindle)
