Global Initiatives Testimonials
While in Spoleto, I was immersed in Italian culture and language. In less than two weeks, I learned to speak some Italian and by the end of the program, I was able to hold a conversation with many locals. It was fascinating to live in a convent and experience the small and beautiful town of Spoleto.
My greatest memories are walking up and down the narrow streets, visiting the duomos, shopping at the leather market in Florence, and, of course, eating the delicious gelato. The Spoleto program not only taught me new art techniques, but also taught me a considerable amount about art history.
I still talk and message my art teacher, Raul, and I was fortunate enough to make so many close friends that I still keep in close contact with today. I constantly keep finding myself telling people all about the places and experiences I had in Spoleto. I will truly never forget the incredible memories I made during the Spoleto Study Abroad Program."

"I traveled to Costa Rica in the summer of 2013. I lived with a host family, which completely immersed me into the language and culture. Our group also visited several schools where we were able to provide needed goods from money collected before leaving. The money was raised by our fourth-grade students who created a market and sold their goods to other students.
Learning about the culture firsthand had a huge impact on how I look at our own culture, and gives me another perspective when guiding students as they learn about North Carolina culture. The service aspect has had the biggest impact on me, and through me, the students can see the benefits of their efforts, teaching them about service at a young age."
