Director of International Education

David Kates

David Kates has served as Director of International Education and Global Initiatives since 2003. For more than 20 years, Mr. Kates has taught Spanish at Ravenscroft at various levels, and is currently teaching Spanish IV to juniors and seniors. He also served as the World Languages Department Chair for three years.

Prior to joining Ravenscroft, he taught Spanish and coached golf and soccer at Pace Academy in Atlanta, Ga., from 1992 to 1996. From 1996 to 2003, Mr. Kates taught Spanish and public speaking, and coached golf and soccer at The Benjamin School of North Palm Beach, Fla.

Mr. Kates has developed and led student programs throughout Western Europe, China, Chile, Zambia, and more. He served on The Global Education Advisory Board for Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS).

Mr. Kates earned a bachelor's in Spanish from Tulane University, and master's of education in educational leadership from Florida Atlantic University. He studied at La Universidad de Madrid (Complutense) for one year.

In 2006, Mr. Kates was awarded Ravenscroft’s Qubain Chair in Teaching Excellence. He was honored with the O'Herron Distinguished Faculty Award in 2015.
