Teams from both the Lower School and Middle School participated in the Battle of the Books District Competition this week, and earned first (Lower School) and second (Middle School) places!
The Lower School students competed on Wednesday at Ravenscroft and won the Elementary District Competition! Students read and studied 18 books in preparation. They competed against St. Peter's Catholic, O'Neal and Westminster Country Day, and will move on to the regional competition.
Team members are: Jasmine Akyurek '24, Lillian Fendelman '24, Alexa Gillon '24, Garland Gould '24, Michael Griffin '23, Lilja Gudmundsson '23, Sophia Hopper '24, Connor Kowalczyk '23, Eden Munster '24, Montana Ramakrishnan '23, Francie Rogers '24 and Bryce Tascher '23. Coaches are Rhonda Zayas-Palmer, Marianne Stapleton, Sue Whitehouse and Kelly Gould.
On Tuesday, the Middle School team earned second place in the competition at Carolina Friends School. Other schools that participated were Durham Academy, Duke School, St. Thomas Moore Academy, Carolina Friends School and Greensboro Montessori. Students were quizzed on their understanding and knowledge of material covered in 27 books.
Coached by Angela Finn, MS Library Department Chair, Morrisa Nagel, MS Language Arts Department Chair and Marcia Ostendorff, MS Science Instructor, the team includes:
