Special Olympics

Ravenscroft is proud of its long-standing association with Special Olympics Wake County. The School has hosted the event on its campus in 18 of the last 19 years dating back to 1991. More than 650 athletes compete each day during the event, and Ravenscroft's students, faculty, staff and parents are involved in every facet of volunteering. Ravenscroft also hosted the a portion of the state-wide Special Olympics each of the last three years.

If you are interested in learning more about Ravenscroft's involvement with Special Olympics Wake County, please contact Ms. Janet Smith.

On Thursday and Friday, April 22-23, Ravenscroft will host the Wake County Special Olympics for the 18th time in 19 years – a tradition dating back to the early 1990s that brings the entire School community together.

Students and faculty in all three divisions contribute their time and talents to help the event run smoothly. On campus, the event is organized by Upper School Instructor Janet Smith and Physical Education Instructor Leslie Payne.

In the Lower School, Student Council representatives have decorated lunch bags for the athletes, and they will also help pack the lunches before the event. In addition, all Lower School students attend the opening ceremony and cheer for the participants as they enter and make their way around Ravenscroft’s stadium.

Middle School students also contributed by decorating lunch bags, and Upper School students will assist as coaches and trainers during the event.
