At a Glance
Ravenscroft's history began in 1862 when the will of Dr. Josiah Ogden Watson, a physician and prominent North Carolina statesman, was entered into the court records of Wake County.
Ravenscroft serves students in prekindergarten through grade 12 and is divided into three divisions: Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School, each with individual directors. The enrollment of the School is approximately 1,190 students.
Typically, 100 percent of graduates pursue their education beyond the secondary level. In 2014, 243 students wrote 498 AP exams with 85 percent of the scores being a "3" or better. We offer 24 AP classes in our curriculum. The Class of 2014 with 112 students achieved an SAT average of 1236 (Critical Reading and Math) or 1846 (Critical Reading, Math, and Writing).
Our School has more than 240 faculty and staff members, nearly 200 of whom are full-time employees. The average faculty member has more than 17 years of classroom experience, and 60 percent have attained advanced degrees. Each School division has its own guidance counselor. A nurse is available on campus during school hours.
Ravenscroft's Fine Arts facilities include the 454-seat Christina B. Jones Theatre and the 180-seat black-box young peoples' theatre. Students can choose from offerings in voice, strings, band, photography, drama, visual arts, and a variety of instrumental ensembles.
Ravenscroft's Athletic department offers 23 sports (boys and girls), and fields 53 teams in those sports at the Middle School, junior varsity, and varsity levels. More than 80 percent of Ravenscroft students in grades 7-12 participate in School-sponsored athletics.
