Herakovich Nets Six Goals, Leads Ravens over Conference Rival Durham Academy, 11-9
DURHAM, NC - Junior midfielder Jamie Herakovich scored a career-high six goals as the Ravens were victorious over the Durham Academy Cavaliers, 11-9, in a hard fought game from start to finish.
The first of Herakovich's goals came at 5:27 in the first quarter, on a man-up opportunity, from an assist by attackman McLean Voelkel, the first of two for the sophomore. Herakovich would score four more times in the second quarter, and twice more in the second half, as the Ravens (2-2, 1-0) traded goals throughout the game with the Cavaliers (0-4, 0-1), before pulling away in the fourth quarter.
Seniors Jimbo Barnes and Carter Voelkel would record two goals of their own, while senior midfielder Alex Cooley contributed three assists in the conference victory. Senior defensive midfielder Josh Moorman caused five Cavalier turnovers, adding to his already impressive team-leading 15 caused turnovers.
The Ravens controled the face-off circle, winning 16 out of 24 draws, and dominated the groundball battle, with 33 to Durham Academy's 19.
Junior attackman Slater Daniels and senior midfielder Alexander Thompson both led Durham Academy with three goals and an assist each. Sophomore goaltender Alex Bassil recorded six saves for the Cavaliers.
Due to a cancellation by Kerr-Vance Academy, the team's next game will be Tuesday, March 26th, at 4:30 p.m., as the Ravens host Maryland-based powerhouse Georgetown Prep. The Hoyas are the 25th-ranked team in the country, according to InsideLacrosse.com's Under Armour Power Rankings.
