The Boys Varsity Soccer team had a strong showing in last week's 45th Soccer Invitational. The Ravens defeated Christ School 4-3 and Cannon School 2-0 during the first two days of action, falling short in the Championship game, losing a hard fought battle to North Raleigh Christian (NRCA) 2-1.
The Knights are the fourth ranked team in the most recent PrepsNow Boys Soccer Top 25 Rankings. The Ravens moved up to 14th after their three game performance.
In the opening game, the Ravens defeated the Greenies of Christ School 4-3. Scoring Goals for the Ravens were Emmanuel Petrov with two goals, Thompson Schollaert with one and Matthew Silver with the game winning shot at the 75 minute mark.
In Friday's semi-final action, the Ravens took on Cannon School and had a solid defensive effort in the 2-0 victory. Evan Bartle and Emmanuel Petrov had the goals. Jackson Corigliano and his defense getting the shutout.
Saturday afternoon, the Ravens came out firing and Payne Gridley got the Ravens the early 1-0 lead. NRCA tied it up at the 25-minute mark of the first half. NRCA controlled the ball for most of the early second half and found the back of the net at the at the 65 minute mark. The Ravens battled until the end, but could not find the equalizer.
Emmanuel Petrov and Thompson Schollaert were selected to the All-Invitational Team.
"The boys did really well and it was great to see the way they were supporting each other throughout the tournament," said head coach Alix Charles. "It was an example of teamwork at its best. I am really proud of what they have accomplished"
The Ravens will resume action on Wednesday at 5:30 as they travel to Durham to open TISAC play against the Cavaliers.
The Ravens are now ranked 14th, according to PrepsNow in the News and Observer.
