Ravenscroft honored three community members with the newly-created Ravens Athletic Club Service Award on Thursday, Feb. 7. The award was created to recognize individuals who have dedicated their lives to volunteer service with an outstanding commitment to Ravenscroft athletics.

Skipper Day graduated from Ravenscroft in 1979 and continues to be involved with Ravenscroft athletics by serving on multiple committees and supporting many teams. His efforts have included assisting with the annual Ravenscroft Golf Classic; working at game concessions; and leading the establishment of a memorial for Coach Ted Stefanou. He has also served as Ravenscroft's Alumni Council president and he received the School's Distinguished Alumni Award in 2006. Day is the father of two Ravenscroft graduates.

Tal Mangum is a 1977 graduate of Ravenscroft. She previously served on the Board of Trustees and currently serves on the Trustee Advisory Council and is a Tri-Chair for the 150th Anniversary Celebration. Mangum received Ravenscroft's Distinguished Alumni Award in 1991, along with her husband, Michael, also a 1977 alumnus. She has volunteered in nearly every capacity possible: as a team parent; concession and gate volunteer; and varsity banquet coordinator. Mangum also was instrumental in the vision to have Ravenscroft's cross-country entrance-way arch designed and built. Mangum has a son who is a graduate of the School, and a daughter who is a senior at Ravenscroft.

Frances Penick was the foundation of the Ravens Athletic Club. Seeing the need to encourage parent involvement to support the athletic program in a more consistent manner, Penick started the Ravens Athletic Club in 2003. She served as the club's first President in 2003-04 and set an example for future athletic club volunteers to follow. Additionally, Penick was co-President of the Parents' Association in 1998-99. She has a son and a daughter who are graduates of Ravenscroft.
