Coaches

  • Head Coach
    Ned Gonet has been the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Ravenscroft since 1981. His football teams have consistently been a force in the Independent league winning numerous Conference Championships over the years and capturing State Championships in 1985, 1989, 1994 and 2000. In addition to football, he has had success as a baseball and girls basketball coach winning Conference and State titles in both sports. He has been very successful in developing players who have contributed at both the college and professional level. In 2004, he earned and received the distinguished certification of Master Athletic Administrator from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administration Association (NIAAA). Coach Gonet is the current president of the North Carolina Big East Independent School Football Conference and also served in the following capacities: North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Executive Board (NCISAA) (1982-1990); NCISAA State Football Chair (2003-2005 and 2008-2010); NCISAA State Basketball Chair (1996,2004,2008 2012); NCISAA Finance Committee (2004); NIAAA Liaison (2003-2004); President of the Triangle Independent Schools Athletic Conference (2007-2009); member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administration Association; member of America Association of Football Coaches; and Pop Warner of North Carolina Board Member. Coach Gonet also served as the North Carolina Shrine Bowl Head Football Coach in 2006 and 2008 and as an assistant in 2005 and 2010. He has also been involved in the Big Buddy program and Safe Child Adopt-A-Family program at Ravenscroft. Coach Gonet is a 1980 graduate of Duke University where he captained the football and baseball teams. He was also a member of the New York Giants organization after graduation. He was inducted into the Ravenscroft Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. In 2017, He was inducted into the George Whitfield Hall of Fame for his contributions to North Carolina High School Athletics.
  • Assistant Coach

    Jim Gibbons joined Ravenscroft in 2008 as an Assistant Athletic Director-Technical Services. He is the head coach of the varsity baseball team, a varsity football assistant coach and physical education teacher. Prior to coming to Ravenscroft, Coach Gibbons spent five years teaching physical education and an assistant coach for football, wrestling, and baseball at the Westminster Schools (Atlanta, Ga.). Coach Gibbons coached for 13 years collegiately from 1990 to 2002 at Wingate University, University at Buffalo, Buffalo State College, Cornell University, and Ithaca College. Coach Gibbons played at Ithaca College for Coach Jim Butterfield and was a member of the 1988 Division III National Champions. His physical education responsibilities include teaching 9th grade physical education, Upper School Fitness Education elective, and Middle School physical education. In 2012, Coach Gibbons completed the process to claim the title of "Certified Athletic Administrator" from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administration Association.

    Chip Hoggard the Assistant Athletic Director for Facility Management and has been employed at Ravenscroft for more than 25 years. He has coached the Ravenscroft Varsity softball team for the past 17 seasons. He was a recipient of the School's Helton Award in 2011.
